India is a country located in South Asia between Pakistan, China and Nepal.To the north it is bordered by the world's highest mountain chain.
India gained independence in 1947 as a unified nation after an intensive struggle for independence India is the second-most populous country in the world with an estimated 1.19 billion people in 2006. Almost 70% of its population reside in rural areas. India's largest urban agglomerations are Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore.
INDIAN mythology consists of tales of gods, the devas and the asuras. However, there are only two famous epics for the Hindus. They are the The Mahabarath and Ramayana.
THE NATIONAL FLAG OF INDIA is in tricolour ( TIRANGA) of deep saffron (Kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal propotions.
In the centre of the white band, there is a wheel in navy blue to indicate the Dharma Chakra, the wheel of law in the Sarnath Lion Capital. This center symbol or the 'CHAKRA', is a Buddhist symbol dating back to 200th century BC.
Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal at Agra, India.
